Residents of Otite community near Okene in Kogi State have expressed renewed hope and commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for the rapid re-arrest and arraignment of Abdulmalik Abdulazeez Obadaki, the alleged kingpin of the Ansaru terrorist group behind the 2012 Deeper Life Bible Church massacre.
In a letter to the DSS, victims' families, survivors, and community members praised the agency's efforts, describing Obadaki's recent arraignment before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja as a significant breakthrough in a case stalled for over a decade.
The development has restored faith in the justice system for those affected by the tragedy. The August 7, 2012, attack saw gunmen storm a Bible study session at the church, killing at least 19 worshippers and injuring several others.
Obadaki, also linked to deadly bank robberies, had escaped during the 2022 Kuje prison break, intensifying fears that justice would be denied.
Those concerns eased in November 2025 when the DSS re-captured him, leading to six terrorism-related charges.
While Obadaki pleaded guilty only to escaping lawful custody, the court remanded him in detention and adjourned the trial to January 26, 2026.
As the case progresses, the Otite community remains cautiously optimistic that long-delayed justice is finally on the horizon.
