The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has invited Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, to appear before its investigators on Monday, December 22, or send a representative to formally adopt and provide evidence for his petition alleging corruption against Farouk Ahmed, the recently resigned Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Sources at the ICPC revealed that a special panel of senior investigators has been constituted and approved by Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN) to probe the matter.
Dangote, or his lawyer Ogwu Onoja (SAN), is required to substantiate the claims outlined in the petition submitted on December 16.
The allegations include Ahmed living beyond his means by reportedly spending over $7 million on his four children's education at prestigious Swiss schools, as well as issuing import licenses for petroleum products in alleged collusion with international oil traders actions claimed to constitute economic sabotage and undermine local refining efforts.
Despite Ahmed's resignation, ICPC insiders emphasized that the investigation will continue due to its significant public interest.
"Resignation does not stop the probe," a source stated, noting that Dangote must present supporting documents.
Once the petition is adopted, Ahmed will be invited to respond to the accusations. The commission pledged a thorough, impartial process under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, with potential penalties including up to five years' imprisonment if convicted.
The case stems from ongoing disputes in 2025 between Dangote Refinery and the NMDPRA over issues like fuel quality standards and import permits.
No charges have been filed as the probe remains ongoing.
