Armed bandits stormed Fananawa village in Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Saturday night, resulting in the death of one resident, the abduction of five others, and serious injuries to another.According to local accounts, the attackers operated from evening until dawn, instilling fear in the community.
A resident, Malam Sani, described the chaos: “The marauders entered the village, killed one person, kidnapped [others] and shot another who sustained serious injuries.
He has been referred to the Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.”The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, who stated that police personnel have launched a rescue operation.
“Our personnel are currently on a rescue mission, and very soon you will hear a success story,” Abubakar said.
He added that authorities are committed to rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators.
This attack comes amid a surge in insecurity in Bukuyum communities over the past month, including repeated assaults by armed groups and a recent bomb blast.
Zamfara continues to grapple with persistent banditry, highlighting ongoing challenges for local security forces.
