APC Sweeps All 27 Chairmanship Seats in Borno Local Government Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a landslide victory in Borno State's local government council elections, winning all 27 chairmanship seats and all councillorship positions across the state's 312 wards.

The results were officially announced on Monday, December 15, 2025, by the Chairman of the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC), Alhaji Tahiru Shettima, during a press conference at the commission's headquarters in Maiduguri.

Shettima described the December 13 election as peaceful, credible, free, fair, and largely hitch-free, praising the cooperation of security agencies, electoral officers, voters, and other stakeholders.

He emphasized that returning officers were selected from individuals of high integrity, mainly from academia and technocratic backgrounds.

The election saw participation from six political parties, including the APC, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Boot Party.

The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) boycotted the polls, citing high nomination fees and lack of confidence in BOSIEC's impartiality.

Shettima urged the chairmen-elect to note the impressive voter turnout, highlighting the importance of local government as the tier closest to the people and the strong grassroots interest in political participation.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Borno also commended BOSIEC for the orderly conduct of the exercise, despite the state's fragile security situation, and called on winners to promote inclusive governance.
