Two members of the House of Representatives from Kano State on Wednesday formally defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during plenary in the Green Chamber.
The defectors are, Hon. Sagir Ibrahim Koki – Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin – Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency
They were officially received by a high-powered APC delegation led by Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin, alongside Senate principal officers, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, immediate past National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and other Kano APC chieftains.
The defection further weakens NNPP’s grip on Kano politics and bolsters the APC’s numerical strength in the lower chamber ahead of the 2027 general elections.
No official reason was stated for the move, but sources say internal crises within the NNPP and alignment with the Tinubu administration’s policies influenced the decision.
The House leadership has acknowledged the defection in line with constitutional provisions.
