Remi Tinubu Distributes 10,000 Menstrual Packs to Zamfara Schoolgirls

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday launched the Zamfara phase of her Renewed Hope Initiative’s “Flow with Confidence” programme, distributing 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads to schoolgirls in rural communities across the state.

Speaking through the wife of the Zamfara Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, at the flag-off event in Gusau, Mrs. Tinubu declared that no girl should miss school or compromise her health due to lack of menstrual products.

“In today’s world, it is unacceptable that girls in rural areas miss up to five school days monthly because they cannot afford sanitary pads. Some resort to unhygienic alternatives; others stay home and fall behind or drop out entirely,” she said.

Each of the 10,000 beneficiaries will receive a one-year supply of custom-made disposable pads, procured at a cost of ₦2.55 billion from Uniglory Nigeria Limited, a local manufacturer in Ikorodu, Lagos.

“We chose disposable pads for their hygiene and reproductive health benefits,” the First Lady explained, urging local government chairmen to take ownership of distribution and ensure the products reach deserving girls not sold.

She called on corporate bodies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and citizens to support the initiative, emphasizing collective responsibility in ending menstrual stigma.

“Let us keep the promise that every Nigerian girl will live, learn, and thrive with dignity and confidence,” she charged.

The programme, already launched in several states, aims to empower girls through education, health, and self-assurance.

Hajiya Kulu Naalah, Chairperson of the Zamfara Secondary Schools Education Board, represented by Zainab Ibrahim, Principal of Government Girls Day Secondary School, Tudunwada, praised the initiative and pledged full institutional support.

Beneficiaries have been urged to use the pads responsibly, stay in school, and reject stigma.

The “Flow with Confidence” intervention continues to gain momentum as a cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on girl-child education and gender equity.
