In a major boost to security operations in southern Taraba, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested Umar Musa Geyi, a high-profile kidnap kingpin long sought by security agencies.
The suspect was apprehended on 22 November 2025 at Jandei-Kulamu in Wukari Local Government Area following precise intelligence.
Geyi, who has been on the wanted list for masterminding multiple abductions along the Wukari axis, was caught red-handed while on a phone call negotiating a ₦20 million ransom for Alhaji Jano, a Fulani man kidnapped on 13 November 2025 in nearby Jandei-Kulala. During the call, Geyi confirmed the victim was still alive.
Troops swooped in and effected the arrest without firing a shot.The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation in military custody as efforts intensify to locate and rescue the hostage safely.
Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift action, describing the arrest as a significant blow to kidnapping syndicates terrorising Taraba communities.
He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and called on residents to sustain the flow of credible information to security agencies.
“Together, we will make Taraba unsafe for kidnappers and all forms of criminality,” Gen Uwa stated.
