The Ogun State Police Command successfully foiled a robbery attempt in Sagamu early Tuesday, thanks to rapid action by Sakura Division operatives following a community distress call.
Police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola revealed that the incident unfolded in the early hours when the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi located off the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway alerted authorities to five hoodlums trying to forcibly enter a residence.
Operatives from Sakura Division were swiftly deployed. Upon spotting the patrol team, the suspects scattered in panic, triggering a pursuit. Police recovered the gang's black Lexus GS 350 (registration OGUN TTD 452 TT) abandoned at the community's entrance.
A search of the vehicle uncovered fireworks, believed to be intended as a distraction tactic.Commissioner of Police CP Lanre Ogunlowo praised the officers' prompt and professional response.
He highlighted enhanced security measures, including deployments to high-risk areas ahead of year-end festivities.
Assuring residents of ongoing visibility and quick interventions, Ogunlowo advised vigilance especially when returning home late and recommended lighting dark or secluded spots to discourage criminals.
