Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has disbursed ₦80 million to the families of fallen forest guards and a vigilante who died bravely combating bandits in Ifelodun and Isin Local Government Areas.
The funds, presented in cheques during an emotional ceremony on Saturday, honor the sacrifices of these heroes killed in clashes in Babanla, Oke Ode, and Eleyin.
Governor AbdulRazaq hailed the deceased as "courageous defenders of our communities," emphasizing their pivotal role in bolstering security against rising banditry.
"Their sacrifice will forever be etched in our hearts," he said, addressing grieving families at the Government House in Ilorin.
The governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for security operatives and local vigilantes, pledging sustained efforts to curb insecurity across Kwara.
The ceremony, attended by community leaders and security officials, underscored the state’s commitment to valuing those who risk their lives for public safety.
The ₦80 million package aims to provide financial relief to the families, ensuring the legacy of the fallen heroes endures.
“This is not just about compensation; it’s about showing we stand with those who stand for us,” AbdulRazaq added.
This move comes as Kwara intensifies its fight against banditry, with recent operations in the state’s forested regions yielding arrests and recoveries of arms.
