FG Silent on Doctors' 24-Hour Call Duty Directive - NARD

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has revealed that the Federal Government has not yet responded to its directive prohibiting doctors from working call duties exceeding 24 hours.

In an interview with The Guardian on Wednesday, NARD President Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleiman stated that the association had instructed its members nationwide to adhere to the 24-hour call duty limit.

Compliance will be monitored by Chief Residents and Centre Presidents across 91 centres.

When asked about the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s response, Suleiman said, “No response so far.”

He highlighted that excessive call duties are negatively impacting patient care, noting, “The excess call duty is already taking its toll on patient care as it is.”

Suleiman urged the ministry to address the issue promptly.Additionally, he mentioned that NARD plans to announce further welfare measures for doctors in the coming weeks.
