Oluremi Tinubu Awards N47m Scholarships, Laptops to 47 Nigerian Students

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has awarded N47 million in scholarships and 47 laptops to 47 outstanding students across Nigerian tertiary institutions through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

The ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, highlighting the initiative’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and leadership among Nigeria’s youth.

The beneficiaries, selected based on academic merit with a minimum GPA of 3.0, are studying diverse fields including Medicine, Law, Engineering, Education, Sciences, and Humanities.

The group comprises five students at 400 Level, 39 at 300 Level, two at 200 Level, and one at ND II. Each student receives N1 million annually and a brand-new laptop to support their academic journey.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that the RHI is a non-political program aimed at transforming lives.

“This is about giving our youth the tools to succeed and contribute to Nigeria’s future. Balance your studies with skills acquisition and give back to your communities,” she urged, hinting at plans to sustain and potentially expand the initiative.

Education Minister Dr. Olatunji Alausa commended the RHI as a vital complement to government efforts, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has awarded N10 billion in bursaries to 12,434 students and N4 billion in scholarships to 8,535 students over the past two years.

He also highlighted the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has disbursed N100 billion to over 500,000 students with flexible repayment plans tied to post-graduation employment.

Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, RHI’s National Secretary, explained that the 2025 beneficiaries follow the success of previous awardees in 2023 and 2024, maintaining high academic standards.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Abdullahi described the package as “life-changing,” emphasizing its role in nurturing talent and bridging educational gaps.

The RHI’s focus on education aligns with broader efforts to empower Nigeria’s next generation of leaders, with plans for further expansion in the coming years.
