The Federal Government of Nigeria has voiced strong concern over Tuesday’s Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, which reportedly targeted senior Hamas figures.
In a statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government warned that such actions threaten regional stability and weaken ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Nigeria emphasized the need to respect national sovereignty and abide by international law, especially regarding cross-border military operations. “This development raises serious questions about regional stability and the prospects for ongoing diplomatic efforts,” the statement read.
The government also recognized Qatar’s significant role in facilitating dialogue in the Middle East and urged all sides to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and recommit to peaceful negotiations.
Extending sympathy to those affected, Nigeria reiterated its support for measures that promote de-escalation and lasting peace.
The statement further affirmed the country’s readiness to collaborate with the international community, through the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, to uphold peace, security, and the rule of law across the Middle East and beyond.
