Prominent ADC chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo has vowed to back whoever emerges as the party's flagbearer for the 2027 general elections, while emphasizing his continued goodwill toward former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
"Whoever wins the election of ADC in the presidential primary, I will support. I don't have any personal problem with my brother Peter Obi," Okonkwo, a Nollywood actor-turned-politician and lawyer, declared during an exclusive interview on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on Friday morning.
Okonkwo's remarks come amid heightened anticipation for the ADC's primary, expected to be a battleground for Nigeria's nascent opposition coalition.
The party, which has positioned itself as the unifying platform for disaffected politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), saw a major boost in July 2025 when heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi defected to its fold, aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The coalition's formation, unveiled on July 2, 2025, by interim chairman David Mark, was hailed as a strategic move to consolidate opposition votes and prevent Nigeria from sliding into a one-party state.
