Katsina Govt Procures 5,000 Cartons of Ammunition to Boosts Security

The Katsina State Government has greenlit the procurement of 5,000 cartons of ammunition to bolster security operatives in their fight against banditry and related crimes across the state.

According to a statement by Ibrahim Mohammed, spokesperson for Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, the decision was made during the recent State Executive Council meeting.

The ammunition will support the state’s Community Watch Corps (CWC), vigilante groups, and hunters who work alongside conventional security forces.

In addition to security measures, the council approved a series of development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and social welfare.

Among these is the purchase of 30 hybrid buses to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce commuting costs for residents.

The construction of the Daura Western Bypass Dual Carriageway was also approved as part of ongoing road renewal initiatives.

Education received significant attention, with the council endorsing solar-powered water supply and reticulation systems, furniture, instructional materials, and science equipment for Special Model Schools in Radda and Charanchi.

Additionally, a 300 kWp solar PV system, battery energy storage, CCTV cameras, solar-powered streetlights, and backup generators will be installed at these schools.

The government also declared a State of Emergency on dilapidated primary school buildings, targeting the rehabilitation of the 10 most affected schools in each of the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.

To address social challenges, the council approved rehabilitation, empowerment training, and settlement support for widows and vulnerable women, particularly those impacted by banditry.

A Graduate Entrepreneurship Empowerment Programme was also introduced, offering soft loans to indigent graduates to start small businesses and combat youth unemployment.

Further modernizing governance, the council approved the remodeling and automation of the State Executive Council Chamber, transitioning from analog to digital processes to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

Mohammed emphasized that these approvals reflect Governor Radda’s “unwavering commitment to transparent governance, sustainable development, security, and inclusive economic growth.”

The initiatives came to light as Katsina continues to address pressing challenges, including banditry, infrastructure deficits, and socio-economic disparities, while aligning with broader development goals.
