Tinubu Presides Over FEC, Swears In Law Reforms Commission Members

President Bola Tinubu presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, where he inaugurated members of the Nigeria Law Reforms Commission (NLRC) in a brief ceremony before the session commenced.

The swearing-in saw Professor Dakas CJ Dakas appointed as Chairman of the NLRC and Dr. Uchenna Eugene as Commissioner.

The event marked a significant step in strengthening the commission’s mandate to review and reform Nigeria’s legal framework to align with contemporary needs.

In his remarks, President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officials to uphold diligence, integrity, and commitment in their duties, emphasizing their critical role in advancing the administration’s agenda for legal and institutional reforms.

“Your work is pivotal to ensuring our laws reflect the aspirations of Nigerians and support our development goals,” he said.

The FEC meeting, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, and Head of Civil Service of the Federation Dr. Esther Didi Walson-Jack, among other ministers, also observed a minute’s silence in honor of former Minister of Agriculture and ex-national Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh.

Agboke, in a related development, noted that the NLRC’s work would complement ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and fairness in governance, drawing parallels with preparations for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun activities to ensure credible polls.

He referenced INEC’s commitment to combating vote-buying and violence, underscoring the need for robust legal frameworks to support democratic processes.

The FEC session included presentations from various ministries, with discussions focused on advancing key policy initiatives and addressing national priorities.

The administration reiterated its commitment to fostering an enabling environment for governance through institutional reforms and stakeholder collaboration.
