Rivers Youths Flogs Police Officer, Two Others for Drug Abuse

In a bold move to curb rampant drug abuse, youths in Nkpolu, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have taken matters into their own hands, apprehending and flogging a serving police officer, Joshua Eyong, and two other men caught allegedly using hard drugs.

The Nkpolu youth leadership launched a "No to Drug Abuse" campaign in response to the devastating impact of drug addiction on their community, where many residents have lost homes and valuables to the menace.

The trio, including Eyong, who serves in the Obio/Akpor Local Council division, was arrested at a known drug hideout.

In a widely circulated video, Eyong, presenting his service ID, did not contest the allegations. Youth President Owhonda Chamberlain emphasized the community’s resolve to eradicate drug abuse, highlighting its destructive toll.

“Our children are losing homes, and properties built by their parents are being sold for drugs,” Chamberlain said.

He explained that drug users often sell valuable assets, like houses worth N4,000,000, for as little as N1,000,000 after spending heavily on drugs.

Chamberlain stated, “By the powers vested in me as youth president, we are ensuring no drugs in Nkpolu.

Drug users and dealers must go elsewhere, like Rumuaghorlu or hotels, but not here.” The campaign reflects the community’s determination to restore order and protect its future.
