LASU Orders Striking Workers to Resume as Government Meets Demands

The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has directed all academic and non-academic staff, who have been on strike for over a week, to resume work on Monday, August 11, 2025.

The directive follows the Lagos State government’s fulfillment of the workers’ demands, bringing an end to the industrial action that disrupted academic activities at the institution.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 10, 2025, by Mrs. Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, Coordinator of LASU’s Centre for Information and Public Relations, the university confirmed that the state government, as the institution’s proprietor, had addressed the grievances raised by the striking workers.

While specific details of the demands and agreements were not disclosed, the resolution has paved the way for normalcy to return to the campus.

“The management of Lagos State University hereby directs all academic and non-academic staff to resume duties on Monday, August 11, 2025, following the state government’s positive response to the issues raised,” the statement read.

The strike, which began over a week ago, had halted academic and administrative operations at LASU, leaving students and parents anxious about the academic calendar.

The resolution is expected to restore regular activities, with staff urged to comply promptly with the directive.

The development has been met with cautious optimism by stakeholders, who hope the agreement will foster a lasting solution to the underlying issues.

LASU’s management reiterated its commitment to maintaining a conducive environment for learning and working, expressing gratitude to the Lagos State government for its intervention.

As staff prepare to return to work, attention now turns to how quickly the university can recover lost ground and ensure the academic session remains on track.
