The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a strong rebuttal to viral social media claims alleging that Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye (State Code: LA/24B/8325) was denied her Certificate of National Service (CNS) for criticizing the government.
The organization labeled the allegations “entirely unfounded and false,” clarifying that Rita’s certificate was withheld due to disciplinary reasons unrelated to any political remarks.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 10, 2025, NYSC Management explained that Rita is among 131 Corps Members whose certificates were withheld for failing to adhere to mandatory NYSC regulations.
Specifically, Rita’s service year was extended by two months because she failed to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, a critical requirement for all Corps Members.
According to the NYSC, this decision aligns with its Bye-Laws, which mandate equal treatment and disciplinary measures for non-compliance.
“The extension of service is a standard procedure and not unique to Rita’s case,” the statement emphasized.
“It is a longstanding tradition within the NYSC to ensure accountability, and we urge the public not to politicize this matter.”
The NYSC’s clarification comes amid widespread speculation on social media platforms, where posts suggested that Rita’s certificate was withheld as punishment for critical comments about the government.
The organization categorically denied these claims, stressing that its actions are guided solely by established protocols and not by political motives.
The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to its constitutional mandate, emphasizing fairness and discipline in its operations.
“We remain dedicated to fostering national unity and development through the service year, and we ask the public to approach this issue with understanding,” the statement concluded.
The controversy has sparked discussions about the intersection of free speech and institutional discipline, with some netizens questioning the transparency of NYSC’s disciplinary processes, while others defend the organization’s adherence to its rules.
As the debate continues, the NYSC has called for responsible reporting to prevent misinformation from undermining its operations.
