Over 200 Bandits Storm Kwara Community, K!ll Policeman and Four Others in Deadly Rampage

No fewer than 200 armed bandits invaded Babanla community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Saturday, August 9, 2025, leaving a trail of destruction that claimed five lives, including a police officer, Adejumo Wasiu.

The assailants, riding motorcycles, stormed the peaceful community with heavy gunfire, targeting the Divisional Police Headquarters and the local market.

According to police investigations, the bandits first attacked the police facility, where they killed Officer Adejumo Wasiu in a brazen assault.

They then proceeded to the community’s market, raiding traders and causing widespread panic.

The attack, marked by sporadic shooting, disrupted the tranquility of Babanla and left residents in fear.A statement released on Sunday, August 10, 2025, by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the tragic loss of five lives, including the policeman.

“The assailants fired sporadically, killing five people, including a police officer, Adejumo Wasiu,” the statement read.

It further detailed a swift response by a combined team of police operatives, Nigeria Army personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters, who successfully repelled the attack and restored order to the community.

In the wake of the incident, Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo, accompanied by the state Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), conducted an on-the-spot assessment visit to Babanla on Sunday.

The delegation met with the traditional ruler, Oba Yusuf Aliyu Alabi, to discuss strategies for consolidating peace and enhancing security collaboration.

They also inspected key locations, including the market and the Divisional Police Headquarters, to ensure stability had been restored.

The police command has since intensified efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, with CP Ojo ordering sustained armed patrols, continuous intelligence gathering, and the deployment of specialized tracking teams.

The DSS has pledged ongoing intelligence support to aid in capturing those responsible.

“The command, in synergy with sister security agencies, remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State,” Ejire-Adeyemi’s statement affirmed.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by providing credible information to security agencies.

The attack, which comes on the heels of a similar incident reported on August 8, 2025, has heightened concerns about rising insecurity in the region.

Authorities are now focused on ensuring such incidents are not repeated, with a renewed emphasis on community-security partnerships to protect Babanla and surrounding areas.
