The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, alias Abbas Ajakaiye, founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, for allegedly masterminding multiple shipments of illicit drugs into Nigeria.
The arrest, which followed months of the suspect evading authorities abroad, took place on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church premises on Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, Lagos.
According to a statement by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, operatives waited until the conclusion of the church’s Sunday worship service to apprehend Olasele.
“NDLEA officers, who had been monitoring him since morning, moved in the moment he stepped out of the church premises in the evening,” Babafemi disclosed.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for the NDLEA in its efforts to curb drug trafficking in Nigeria.
Olasele, who had reportedly fled abroad to avoid capture, is accused of orchestrating several illicit drug shipments into the country, though specific details about the nature and volume of the drugs were not disclosed in the statement.
