Security operatives have successfully rescued three family members of Malam Mohammed Abubakar Nakwada, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), who were kidnapped on July 27, 2025.
The victims, identified as Sadiya Nakwada, Aisha Nakwada, and Abubakar Dan Fulani, were freed following a coordinated operation by the Zamfara State Police Command’s tactical teams and the Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad (FID STS) from Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement released on Sunday, authorities confirmed that the rescue operation led to the arrest of five suspects linked to the abduction: Hamza Umar, Abubakar Abdullahi, Aisha Umar, Mohammed Ibrahim, and Igeh Mohammed, all residents of the Mareri area in Damba District, Gusau Local Government Area.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to uncover further details about the kidnapping and potential accomplices.
The operation marks a significant achievement in Zamfara State’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and banditry, which have plagued the region.
Sources indicate that the rescued victims have been taken to an undisclosed medical facility for evaluation and care, though their condition has not been publicly disclosed.
The Zamfara State Police Command commended the collaboration with the FID STS, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing security challenges.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
The rescue has sparked relief among residents, with many praising the swift response of the security forces.
The state government has yet to issue an official statement, but the operation is seen as a step toward restoring confidence in efforts to curb insecurity in Zamfara State. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
