Gov Soludo Says Politicians Promising One-Term Tenure Need Psychiatric Evaluation

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has declared that any politician promising to serve only one term in office requires a psychiatric evaluation.

Speaking at the Anambra South endorsement rally for his second-term bid, Soludo dismissed the idea of a single-term pledge as absurd, challenging proponents to cite any precedent for such a commitment.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution permits two terms for elected officials, questioning the mental state of anyone advocating otherwise.

“Anybody with a brain… you think you’re talking to fools? You come to people and say, ‘I will do only one term.’

Any politician who says that must be sent to a psychiatric home because the person must have some mental problem,” Soludo stated.

His remarks follow recent comments by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who expressed willingness to honor a coalition agreement limiting him to a single term and handing over power to the North in 2031, prioritizing character and integrity over prolonged tenure.
