EFCC Hands Over N100m Recovered Funds to Federal Ministry in Uyo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, handed over a draft of N100 million to the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Development in Akwa Ibom State.

The funds, recovered from mining companies defaulting on royalty payments to the government, were presented by Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE1) Oshodi Johnson, Zonal Director of the Uyo office, on behalf of EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

The brief ceremony took place at the EFCC’s Uyo office, where Oshodi emphasized the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability in recovering misappropriated funds and assets.

“Accountability is the way to earn the trust of Nigerians,” he stated, highlighting the importance of strengthened synergy between the EFCC and federal ministries.

He urged for enhanced information sharing to boost cooperation at strategic, operational, and tactical levels.

“The public must know that we work together,” he added.Oshodi revealed that the N100 million recovery is “just a tip of the iceberg,” with ongoing investigations expected to yield larger recoveries in the mining sector and beyond.

He credited the approval of the draft release to Chairman Olukoyede and called on the ministry to continue providing actionable intelligence to support the EFCC’s efforts.

Receiving the draft, Mr. Emmanuel Effiong Bassey, Federal Mines Officer for Akwa Ibom State, praised the EFCC’s diligence and swift response to a petition that facilitated the recovery.

He described the mineral and mining sector as vital to Nigeria’s economic stability, noting, “Without this sector, the country struggles.”

Bassey expressed optimism for deeper collaboration, stating, “With this, we are hoping that much more will come.”

Oshodi thanked the ministry for its role in providing critical intelligence and reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to sustained collaboration with government agencies.

He stressed that the Commission would continue deploying intelligence to track and recover government funds, ensuring no kobo remains unaccounted for.

  1. Let the efcc also check on the akwa ibom state hospitals management board on issues of conhess arrears where some collected twice while some were fraudulently short paid and efforts to ask for reasons for such was met with collaborated victimisation by a female director (name withheld) and her cohorts including being openly disgraced under the watchful eyes of a female medical superintendent (name withheld). As a follow up after threat of further victimisation, transferred to remote area leaving the children in despair then being asked to resign if not comfortable with the so-called transfer. One of such undignified episode happened at general hospital Ikot Ekpene and surprisingly is yet to reach the office the Honorable Commissioner of Health for upwards of two years now. Please let the Efcc check on the heinous activities of this HMB and bring those found culpable to book.
