D’Tigress Reach 2025 Women’s Afrobasket Final After Thrilling 75-68 Win Over Senegal

Nigeria’s D’Tigress have secured a spot in the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket final in Côte d’Ivoire, defeating Senegal 75-68 in a gripping semi-final on Saturday, August 2, at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.

This marks Nigeria’s fifth straight appearance in the tournament’s final since 2017, as they aim to become the first nation to win five consecutive Afrobasket titles.

The semi-final was a fierce battle against Senegal, coached by Otis Hughley, who previously guided D’Tigress to three consecutive Afrobasket titles from 2017 to 2021.

Nigeria started strong, leading 22-17 after the first quarter and 43-37 at halftime, despite Senegal’s defensive pressure.

The third quarter saw Nigeria struggle, scoring only nine points and trailing 58-52.

However, a resilient comeback in the final quarter, fueled by sharp shooting and effective turnovers, sealed the 7-point victory.

Having defeated Cameroon in the quarter-finals, D’Tigress now await either Mali in the final on Sunday, August 3, as they chase historic glory in the tournament.
