Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun yesterday assured that he will meet the 35 percent women representation in his cabinet as promised.
Mr Amosun’s assurance came shortly after discussions with the a gender activists, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi.
Ms Akiyode-Afolabi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Women Advocate Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), told journalists that the discussion with the governor was successful as there was already a pact the governor signed with the women forum.
She said the meeting with Mr Amosun became necessary when it was discovered that his recently announced appointments do not meet the criteria of 35 percent allocations for women in government in the state.
“I can tell you that we had a successful discussion with the governor and he assured women of giving us priority in the subsequent appointments. I know he would do it because he is also aware that he had, in March 2011, signed a pact with women on this.” Ms Akiyode-Afolabi stated.
She said governors all over the country should emulate President Goodluck Jonathan who has met the required percentage in his recent appointments.
