Former Minister of Finance and Secretary to the Federal Government, Olu Falae, at the weekend said the creation of new ministries as currently being proposed by the federal government was unnecessary, describing it as another exercise that will promote prolificacy.
Mr Falae, in an interview with reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, said that since the creation of the ministries would not enhance efficiency and productivity, there was no need to embark on such an action.
He said it was wrong for the presidency to propose creating more ministries at a time the nation needed to reduce its overhead expenses.
“Creation of additional ministries is a way of wasting government resources. At a time when we need to reduce overhead expenses we are creating more institutions that can lead us to spend more money.
“As a matter of fact, there is no need for the federal government to create more ministries. What we need at this moment is to ensure government money is judiciously used.
“If you have 36 states and you have only 18 ministries, it means that you have to create 18 additional ministries. So, if we have 100 states tomorrow, you must have 100 ministers. It is a wrong idea.”
Commenting on the constant attack of the Boko Haram sect in some northern states, Mr Falae said the violence was sponsored by some politicians who were bent on destablising the nation.
According to the elder statesman, the level of sophistication with which the sect carried out its dastardly acts showed that they were not ordinary hoodlums.
“The Boko Haram of today is completely different from the Boko Haram of last year. But I suspect that some people are using this to destabilise the country
