Ghanaian police have arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal syndicate that targeted bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding areas.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement signed by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The suspects were identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley (alias KC), 35.According to the police, an IGP’s Special Team made up of officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate carried out an intelligence-led operation at about 11:30 pm on October 31, 2026.
Two of the suspects, Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka, were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo. A search of their rooms yielded GH¢1,600 in cash, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike, and a master key allegedly used to open victims’ vehicles and steal cash.
During interrogation, the pair reportedly confessed to the robberies and named two accomplices: Chinedu (alias Alhaji) and Kingsley (alias KC). Officers later arrested Kingsley at another hotel in Dichemso, a suburb of Kumasi. Chinedu remains at large, and police have appealed to the public for information that could lead to his arrest.
Police said the gang’s method involved monitoring banking premises, identifying customers who withdrew large sums, trailing them, and then attacking them. They also used the master key to break into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers. The suspects allegedly admitted to robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27 after the victim withdrew money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also confessed to similar attacks linked to the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank, and other locations in the area.
The three arrested suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations. Police urged bank customers to stay vigilant, watch out for suspicious persons around banks, and avoid leaving cash or valuables in unattended vehicles.
