The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected fraudster and recovered electronic appliances valued at ₦3 million that were allegedly obtained through a fake bank alert.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib disclosed that the command is also intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspect’s accomplice, who remains at large.
According to the police, a 65-year-old businessman residing in New GRA, Bauchi, reported the incident at the ‘B’ Division on 30 October 2026. He stated that on 26 October 2026, two men visited his shop at Fire Service Junction, Bauchi, posing as genuine customers.
The suspects were identified as Alex T. Bwacha, 34, a resident of Gombe State, and Bako Akin of Jos, Plateau State. They allegedly purchased electronic items worth ₦3 million, including one Hisense 50-inch television, one Hisense 58-inch television, one TCL 43-inch television, one Hisense sound bar, two Hisense air conditioners and one LCT home theatre.
Instead of making a legitimate payment, the suspects sent a fake bank alert to the businessman as proof of payment before absconding with the goods.
Detectives from the ‘B’ Division launched a discreet investigation following the report. This led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Alex T. Bwacha, and the recovery of some of the stolen items from him. The investigation was later extended to Jos, Plateau State, where the remaining items were also recovered.
The police confirmed that all the stolen electronics have been recovered. The arrested suspect is currently in custody, while efforts continue to track down his accomplice.
