Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured President Bola Tinubu of the state’s firm backing for his 2027 re-election bid, saying the people will reciprocate the support the President gave during their most difficult period.
Fubara made the pledge on Saturday, 7 November 2026, while welcoming Tinubu to Rivers State for the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt. In a statement posted on his X platform and remarks at the event, the governor expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s intervention in the state’s prolonged political crisis.
“Rivers State has not forgotten your support in our most challenging moments. As you stood with us, we are ready to stand firmly with you as you seek a renewed mandate in 2027,” Fubara said. He added: “Rivers State is with you, Mr President!”
Speaking at the rally, Fubara described Tinubu’s role as that of a father and true statesman. He said that when the state was at a crossroads amid intense political uncertainty, the President did not look away but reached out, called for peace and harmony, intervened directly and made personal sacrifices so the administration could continue delivering democratic dividends.
“As you have stood for us, we will stand for you. As you have supported Rivers State, Rivers State will support you equally,” the governor declared. He also pledged that the state would deliver at least three million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election under the Rainbow Coalition involving APC and PDP figures.
Fubara affirmed that political divisions in Rivers were over and that leaders were now speaking with one voice in support of the President. He said his administration and the people of the state remained committed to building a peaceful, stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
In response, Tinubu praised Fubara for his maturity, understanding and respect for the wisdom of elders during the reconciliation process. “Fubara, you will not regret what you have done as long as all of us are alive,” the President said, describing the governor as a committed democrat who maintained peace.
The exchange took place against the background of earlier tensions in Rivers State, including a state of emergency declared by Tinubu in 2025 that was later lifted, followed by further reconciliation efforts involving Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
