Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has pledged that the state will deliver at least 50 per cent of its votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Soludo made the declaration on Friday while flagging off the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign for the 2027 general elections at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.He announced that APGA would not field its own presidential candidate and had formally adopted Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as its preferred choice.
“Today, we adopt the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, as our candidate. We will work hard to deliver 50 per cent of the state’s votes to him in the 2027 presidential election,” Soludo said.
The governor said Tinubu had shown concern for the Igbo people, particularly Anambra residents. He recalled that Tinubu, while governor of Lagos State, appointed several Anambra indigenes to strategic positions.Soludo noted that APGA had previously backed the ruling party’s presidential candidates and described the current decision as a continuation of that practice.
He pointed out that Tinubu received fewer than 5,000 votes in Anambra in the 2023 presidential election, yet the president had continued to address challenges facing the state and the South-East.“We gave him only about 5,000 votes, and yet he is doing wonderful works in the state,” Soludo said. “We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State. We are targeting 50 per cent for the President.”
During the event, Soludo also unveiled over 250 APGA candidates for various positions and presented flags to legislative aspirants in the state.
