Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu, has asked south-easteners to ignore “voices” asking them not to vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Mbah spoke on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress
(APC) women’s mega rally and empowerment programme at Okpara Square in Enugu.
The empowerment programme was flagged off by First Lady
Oluremi Tinubu.
Speaking at the rally, the Enugu governor said the Tinubu
administration has made funds available to state governments to drive
infrastructure development.
The Enugu governor said the 2027 elections will test the
ability of south-easterners to build relationships outside of the zone, adding
that Igbos are not ethnic bigots.
“We must finish the journey we all started together. We must
come out on January 16 with our PVC and ensure that the good work Mr. President
is doing will continue,” he said.
“Don’t listen to any voice. Those voices telling us a
different thing. We, the Igbos have gone to communities outside our zone to
build businesses.
“We also know how to build relationships. And that is being
put to test. We are not a people that are ethnic bigots. We are a people that
are strategic.
“And that is why we must all come out in our numbers and
support Mr. President to continue the good work. Support all our APC candidates
to ensure that they are returned come January and February.”
Also speaking, Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo, said the
south-east is committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election.
He said the Tinubu administration opened the south-east to
an era of political inclusion after years of marginalisation.
“We are now seeing good roads, electricity, health reforms
as well as educational reforms in the country. A winning team must not be
changed,” he said.
