Minister of Education Tunji Alausa has declared that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in 2027 on the strength of his administration’s record, while dismissing the opposition as lacking any coherent alternative for Nigerians.
Alausa, who was recently appointed Director of Education Sector Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. He accused opposition figures of being driven by envy and of having failed when previously tested in office.
“Whatever nonsense these people (opposition) are talking about is out of sheer envy. They can’t deliver, they have been tested, they have no clue of what to do for Nigerians,” Alausa said. “This president is giving Nigerians tangible benefits. Let’s be objective, that is what we have said and I am very unapologetic about this, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win his second term squarely based on his achievements.”
He argued that Tinubu has delivered transformative changes across multiple sectors and therefore deserves another term. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transformed every sector of this country and he deserves to be re-elected come January 16, 2027, based on his accomplishments,” the minister stated.
Alausa further urged Nigerians to ignore the opposition, accusing them of promoting division instead of offering a viable programme. “And please, let’s not listen to the opposition parties, they don’t have any clear agenda for this country. They are just there to cause division amongst us,” he added.
Pointing to the education sector as evidence of progress, Alausa highlighted improved relations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). He said the government has fulfilled its agreement with the union and is advancing the president’s commitment that four-year university programmes should not stretch beyond their scheduled duration.
He also noted that ASUU has not embarked on a prolonged strike since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, contrasting this with the eight-month nationwide industrial action that ran from February to October 2022 under the previous administration presenting the development as a sign of better engagement between the administration and university lecturers.
Beyond industrial harmony, specific education-sector achievements under the Tinubu administration that Alausa and official reports have cited include:
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has supported well over 1.5 million students with institutional charges and upkeep allowances, removing financial barriers to tertiary education.
Expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with more than 160,000–250,000 Nigerians trained across approximately 1,200 centres nationwide; free tuition, accommodation and feeding at federal technical colleges; and monthly stipends for trainees.
Enrolment of about 1.2 million out-of-school children back into classrooms over roughly two years through multilayer interventions including school feeding.
An increase to 29 Nigerian universities listed in the Times Higher Education World Rankings (the highest number from any Sub-Saharan African country).
Broader reforms under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), covering skills development, STEMM funding, girl-child education, data systems and quality assurance.
These measures, according to Alausa, form part of the tangible benefits Nigerians are experiencing and the foundation for Tinubu’s expected second-term victory.
