2027: Heavens Won’t Fall if Atiku isn’t on Ballot — Feature Keyamo

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has defended a Federal High Court judgment that nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President David Mark and invalidated the nomination of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Reacting to the ruling in a post on X on Friday, Keyamo maintained that judicial decisions must be assessed on the basis of facts and evidence rather than public sentiment or political pressure.

The minister criticised those condemning the judgment, insisting that disagreement with a court ruling should not translate into attacks on the judiciary.

“You cannot abuse judges and blackmail the judiciary when it doesn’t go your way. Heavens will not fall if a certain Atiku Abubakar is not on the ballot in 2027,” he stated.

Keyamo further argued that the ADC remains an existing political party with recognised founding leaders and members whose interests are equally protected under the law.

His comments come amid growing debate over the judgment, with some political observers drawing comparisons to previous Supreme Court decisions in Bayelsa and Zamfara states that went against the ruling All Progressives Congress but were accepted by the party.

The controversy intensified after the Federal High Court in Abuja voided the National Working Committee headed by David Mark and nullified the process that produced Atiku as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The ruling has triggered fresh discussions within political circles about party leadership disputes, judicial intervention in party affairs, and the implications for opposition politics ahead of the 2027 polls.

Keyamo, however, insisted that respect for the rule of law and judicial pronouncements remains essential to the country’s democratic process, regardless of whose political interests are affected.
