The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a resolution backing the proposed constitutional amendment to establish state police across Nigeria.
The resolution was adopted during Monday’s plenary session, following the transmission of constitutional alteration bills from the National Assembly to state legislatures for consideration.
Speaker Isma’ila Moriki, who announced the decision at a press briefing, said the move was aimed at strengthening security in Zamfara and other parts of the country.
“This will, Insha Allah, complement the efforts of Mr President and Governor Dauda Lawal in addressing insecurity-related issues in the state and our dear country, Nigeria,” Moriki stated.
The endorsement comes amid persistent security challenges in Zamfara, where communities have suffered repeated attacks and abductions by armed groups.
Lawmakers expressed confidence that the creation of state police would provide additional support to federal security agencies in tackling the crisis.
