Wike Takes Action in Private, Brags in Public - Rufai Oseni

Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has taken aim at Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of undermining Nigeria’s electoral process through his recent remarks about the 2027 general election and his role in the 2024 Edo State governorship poll.

Speaking on the What’s Trending segment of Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oseni argued that Wike’s conduct reflects the deterioration of Nigeria’s democratic system.

He noted that Wike often carries out actions privately before boasting about them publicly.

“With Minister Nyesom Wike, he will be the one to do it in private, and he will still be the one to come and tell us in public. That’s how he does it,” Oseni said.

Wike had recently declared that President Bola Tinubu must win the FCT in the 2027 presidential election, while also recounting how he influenced the outcome of the 2024 Edo governorship race against PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo.

Oseni accused Wike of allowing his feud with former Edo governor Godwin Obaseki to shape his political decisions, claiming that this undermined a candidate he described as “quality.”

He linked Wike’s approach to broader flaws in Nigeria’s electoral system, citing controversies around the 2019 Rivers State governorship election.

The journalist further criticised political parties for relying on what he called “structures of criminality” rather than free and fair elections. He warned that Wike’s statements should not surprise Nigerians, as they mirror past practices.

Oseni concluded by urging citizens to reject political manipulation and demand accountability, stressing that continued support for such behaviour only entrenches systemic failures.
