‘We’ll get through this together’ — Guardiola breaks silence on City’s 114 EPL rule breaches

Pep Guardiola has declared his support for Manchester City after the club was found guilty of breaching financial rules.

Guardiola’s backing comes a few hours after the English Premier League (EPL) confirmed that Manchester City had been found guilty on all charges related to its finances and non-cooperation, and had inflated its revenues by about £900 million during the period investigated.

An independent commission investigated Man City’s books from the 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons, with the high-profile case becoming public knowledge in 2023.

The EPL also alleged the eight-time league champions failed to cooperate with investigations, and they were ultimately found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against the Abu Dhabi-owned club.

However, Guardiola, who was at the helm for 10 years — from the 2016/17 season until last season — showed solidarity with the club where he won six EPL titles.

In a post on his social media account on Wednesday, the 55-year-old revered tactician threw his weight behind the club in its claim of innocence, declaring support for everyone at the Etihad Stadium.

“I want every single Manchester City fan across the world to know I am here; more than ever,” he wrote.

“I am, always have been, always will be, behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters.”

The former Barcelona coach, who had previously declared he would stop supporting Man City if he found out the club had lied to him about its financial dealings related to the charges, revealed his love for the club and his intention to stand with Man City through the EPL indictment process.

“Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all,” he added.

Guardiola left Man City in June, three months before the club was found guilty of breaching EPL rules.

He spent £2.03 billion on 72 players during his decade-long reign at Man City, and won four EPL titles in a row between 2021 and 2024.
