Selena Gomez, the US singer and actress, has revealed that
frequent vaping has altered her voice.
Vaping involves inhaling and exhaling an aerosol produced by
heating a liquid, which may contain nicotine, flavourings, propylene glycol and
other additives, in a handheld device such as an e-cigarette or vape pen.
In a post via her Instagram story, the actress said she had
struggled to quit after using nicotine heavily, and that the habit had changed
her voice so much she understood why some people might not enjoy hearing her
speak.
She said she was glad to have stopped and hoped to remain
vape-free despite the difficulty of quitting.
“I’m going to be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a
lot, and it’s so hard to quit. I just want to say, if you are trying to vape,
it isn’t worth it,” she said.
“It’s so stupid, and it’s changed my voice, so if you don’t
like listening to my voice, it’s understandable. I’m really excited because I
stopped, and I just hope I can keep it up because it’s really hard.”
In September 2024, Gomez revealed she took a break from
music to prepare for her role in ‘Emilia Perez’, a Spanish musical.
She signed with Hollywood Records in 2008 and formed the
band Selena Gomez & the Scene.
