Troops Neutralise Over 40 ISWAP Fighters, Including Commander, in Borno Airstrike

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed more than 40 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, including a prominent commander, in a precision airstrike on their hideout in Borno State.

The operation took place on October 10, 2026, at Badu Village, south of Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area.

The terrorists were reportedly preparing coordinated attacks on military positions in Sector 3.Acting Military Information Officer of the Northeast Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed the details in a statement on Monday.

He said the Air Component of the Joint Task Force carried out the strike after receiving intelligence on the group’s movements.

The airstrike also destroyed two vehicles and about 20 motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility, logistics and operations.

This significantly weakened their capacity and disrupted planned assaults on troops and nearby communities.Preliminary assessments from human intelligence and battle damage reports confirmed that over 40 fighters, including a senior ISWAP Qaid (commander), were neutralised.

Further intelligence indicated the group belonged to ISWAP’s Murabitun unit, a specialised mobile fighting force responsible for patrols, attack coordination and sustaining terrorist activities in the area.

Goni described the destruction of the enclave and its assets as a major setback to the group’s ability to launch attacks and maintain operations in the Lake Chad region.

He reaffirmed that the Joint Task Force remains committed to sustained, coordinated air and ground operations aimed at eliminating terrorist threats, protecting communities and restoring lasting peace and stability in the Northeast.
