Tinubu Seeks to Block Release of FBI, DEA Files in U.S. Court

President Bola Tinubu has asked a United States federal court to dismiss a fresh bid by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan to introduce new records in a lawsuit seeking access to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) files linked to a past narcotics probe.

The objection, filed on October 15, 2026, at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, challenges Greenspan’s attempt to add 176 pages of public records, including reports of alleged hacking activities, criminal proceedings, and media publications.

Greenspan had submitted the application on October 8, arguing that the materials would support his request for limited discovery from Tinubu.

However, Tinubu’s legal team countered that the documents were already publicly available and should have been included in earlier filings.

They also argued that news articles and similar records cannot be accepted as proof of the claims they contain.

“News articles are not appropriate for judicial notice for the truth, content, or veracity of their claims,” Tinubu’s lawyers stated in their filing.

The case continues to draw attention as Greenspan presses for the release of documents tied to investigations from the late 1980s and early 1990s, while Tinubu’s team works to block their inclusion in court proceedings.
