The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu's administration, claiming that despite securing substantial loans since 2023, it has little to show in terms of completed infrastructure projects.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the council reacted to the President's recent remarks that attention should be focused on what the country builds rather than the size of its borrowings.
According to the ADC-PCC, the Federal Government should identify and account for projects completed with funds obtained through the loans accumulated under the current administration.
Ologbondiyan argued that several flagship infrastructure schemes promoted by the government, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the Trans-Sahara Superhighway, have yet to deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians. He described the projects as largely existing in public announcements rather than in completed results.
The opposition council also questioned the pace of work on the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, noting that the prolonged construction timeline has raised concerns about the administration's infrastructure performance.
“For three and a half years, the Tinubu government has borrowed heavily without delivering corresponding development projects. There is no significant value, legacy or impact to justify the rising debt profile,” Ologbondiyan said.
The ADC-PCC further alleged that many Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship, poverty and insecurity while the government concentrates on promoting its achievements.
The council called on the National Assembly to subject future borrowing requests to rigorous scrutiny and demand greater transparency regarding the utilisation of public loans.
It maintained that the administration must provide clearer evidence of the impact of its borrowing on national development and infrastructure delivery.
