Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that he and his associates were attacked by suspected political thugs in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
Sowore made the claim in a brief post on his official Facebook page on Friday, stating that the incident occurred while they were inside a restaurant in the city.
According to the activist and former presidential candidate, the attackers stormed the venue and targeted his group.
“Thugs just attacked us inside a restaurant in Ado Ekiti,” Sowore wrote.
As of the time of reporting, the Ekiti State Police Command had not officially commented on the alleged attack. Efforts to obtain confirmation from the police were unsuccessful.
The reported incident comes at a time of heightened political activities across the country as stakeholders begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Security agencies have repeatedly cautioned political actors and their supporters against engaging in violence, urging all parties to conduct their activities peacefully before, during and after the elections.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack remain unclear, while authorities are yet to provide an official account of the incident.
