Tinubu, Gov. Sani Spent More Protecting Billboards Than Kaduna People - Odinkalu

Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Chidi Odinkalu, has accused President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani of prioritising the protection of campaign billboards over the safety of residents facing persistent insecurity.

In a post on his X account on Friday, Odinkalu argued that the energy and resources devoted to securing billboards in recent days far outweighed efforts made to protect Kaduna citizens in the past three years.

“If the government of @officialABAT & @ubasanius spent as much energy over the past 3 & a half yrs protecting the people of Kaduna State as they have spent in the past 3 & a half days to protect the billboards of both men, they'd have saved a lot of money on accomplishing the latter,” he wrote.

His remarks followed criticism by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who questioned the deployment of security personnel to guard Tinubu’s billboards in Kaduna.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the move highlighted misplaced priorities, contrasting the protection of billboards with the insecurity faced by residents.

“Bola, you claim Nigerians love you, yet your billboards in Kaduna require security guards. Bandits raid villages, terrorists attack communities, and families live in fear,” Atiku stated.

The comments have intensified debate over governance priorities in Kaduna, where communities continue to grapple with banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks.
