Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week during a summit of gas-exporting countries, Iranian media reported.
According to Tehran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, will focus on economic cooperation and “questions of geopolitics.”
The visit shows the growing ties between Russia and Iran, two heavily sanctioned nations that have deepened relations since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that both leaders would attend the talks, following Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s visit to Tehran earlier this week.
Araghchi described Russo-Iranian cooperation as “closer than ever.”Putin recently signalled Russia’s willingness to mediate in the Middle East conflict, while negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain stalled.
Both the US and Israel have threatened renewed strikes on Iran amid escalating tensions.
The summit is expected to highlight energy collaboration among gas-exporting nations while reinforcing political and strategic ties between Moscow and Tehran.
