‘There’ll be joy in the morning’ — LP asks Nigerians not to lose hope despite hardship

The Labour Party (LP) has urged Nigerians not to lose hope in country despite growing economic hardship, insecurity and other challenges.

In a statement issued on Wednesday ahead of Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary, the opposition party acknowledged the country’s missed opportunities and unfulfilled expectations but said citizens must continue to believe in Nigeria’s potential.

The LP said the current economic and security challenges were partly the result of what it described as ineffective leadership and governance by successive administrations.

The party, however, urged Nigerians to remain united and committed to building a better country, saying despair would amount to surrendering hope after years of challenges.

“There will surely be joy in the morning,” the party said, urging Nigerians not to give up on the country.

‘DON’T SURRENDER HOPE’

The LP said it would be a “double tragedy” for Nigerians to lose hope after enduring “years of misrule”.

The party also called on citizens to hold political leaders accountable and demand governance that prioritises their welfare.

According to the LP, meaningful change can only be achieved when citizens actively participate in the democratic process and insist on accountability from those in authority.

The LP said it remains committed to providing “exemplary leadership” and urged Nigerians to look to the party for credible alternatives.

The opposition party said it had fielded competent and credible Nigerians for upcoming elections, citing Alex Otti, governor of Abia, as an example of its leadership model.

It described Otti as a product of the LP who has demonstrated “tested and proven fidelity to promises” and could serve as a role model in governance.

The LP also urged those in positions of authority to govern with empathy, justice and transparency while placing the welfare of Nigerians at the centre of their decisions.

The party reaffirmed its confidence in the Nigerian people and their ability to overcome the country’s current challenges.

It urged citizens at home and in the diaspora to mark the 66th anniversary with renewed hope and a commitment to building a better Nigeria.
