Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to head a Nigerian delegation on a government-to-government peer exchange aimed at accelerating nutrition delivery.
The visit comes at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is driving a multi-sectoral approach to improve nutrition outcomes in his country.
Shettima will take part in the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, a forum designed to help stakeholders from both nations share experiences on building coordinated nutrition programmes spanning federal, state and local levels.
During the trip, the Nigerian team will exchange insights with Ethiopian officials on how government-led initiatives can strengthen nutrition service delivery.
The programme also includes site visits to key facilities linked to food production and nutrition, among them a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia, the ‘Bounty of the Basket’ Training Centre and selected households in Mojo, and Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.
Accompanying the Vice President are Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.
Other members of the delegation include the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar.
