Saudi Arabia’s civil defence agency on Friday issued warnings of “potential danger” across four western provinces, including Mecca, Jeddah, Taif, and Yanbu, before rescinding them minutes later.
Residents were instructed to move to the nearest safe place, though the agency did not specify the reason for the alerts.
It also reiterated legal warnings against sharing images or information related to “countering missiles and drones.”
The Gulf kingdom has faced repeated attacks in recent weeks from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have targeted airports and oil infrastructure. Earlier this month, an assault on Riyadh airport killed 13 people and injured dozens.
Saudi Arabia leads a military coalition that intervened in Yemen’s civil war in 2015. Although a ceasefire in 2022 brought temporary calm, fighting resumed in July amid wider regional instability.
