Police Rescue kidnap Victim After ₦10.3m Ransom Payment in Rivers, Arrest Suspects

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate and secured the release of a victim who was held captive for three days in Port Harcourt.

The victim, identified as Hassan, a resident of Rivers State, was abducted on September 6, 2026, near Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt.

He was taken to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he was held for three days until his relatives paid a ransom of ₦10.3 million.

Command spokesperson Blessing Agabe disclosed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.

She said the police received credible information about the abduction on September 7 and immediately deployed operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU).

The intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of the two suspects at a waterfront hideout in the Borikiri axis.

The arrested suspects were named as Victor Ifeanyi, 24, also known as “Big Boby,” a native of Aguleri Community in Otuocha Local Government Area of Anambra State; and Aniekan Okon Michael, 36, also known as “Duff Man,” from Ikot Ukpor in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to the police, preliminary investigation showed that the suspects confessed to their involvement and revealed that the six-man gang used a white minibus during the operation.

Agabe said efforts had been intensified to track down the remaining members of the syndicate who are still at large.
