Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, has issued a three-day ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish his name on the final list of candidates for the 2027 Gombe governorship election or face legal action.
The demand was contained in a letter dated Monday, October 12, 2026, signed by his legal team led by Ahmed Raji, SAN, and addressed to INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan.
Pantami’s lawyers described his omission from the list released on October 10 as unlawful, insisting he was duly elected in a fresh primary conducted in line with court orders.According to the letter, Pantami, a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Pantami Ward, Gombe State, won the party’s governorship primary held on May 26, 2026.
Although the Federal High Court in Gombe nullified that exercise, it upheld his eligibility and ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh primary within 30 days.
The lawyers stated that the PDP complied with the ruling and held a new primary on September 29, 2026, after notifying INEC.
They argued that the commission had earlier published Pantami’s name on August 29 without objection, and therefore had no legal basis to exclude him from the updated list.
Pantami’s legal team warned that failure to comply with the ultimatum by Wednesday, October 14, would trigger immediate legal proceedings against INEC.
