Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has met with the newly appointed Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, to discuss the urgent issue of abducted schoolchildren and travellers in Borno State.
The meeting, held at the Maimalari Military Cantonment in Maiduguri, focused on strategies to intensify military operations aimed at rescuing victims of recent abductions.
Ndume highlighted the plight of over 40 pupils and students abducted in Mussa, more than 30 kidnapped in Lassa, and several passengers, including a toddler, taken during a terrorist ambush along the Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi road earlier this year.
Ndume urged the military to prioritize the safe release of the abductees, stressing that their recovery remains his top concern.
He commended the Nigerian Army for its ongoing efforts to improve security in the North-East but emphasized that more decisive action is needed to reassure affected communities.
In response, Major General Ajose assured the senator of the military’s commitment to tackling insecurity and pledged to intensify operations under his command to secure the release of the abducted children and travellers.
This meeting underscores the urgency of addressing persistent insecurity in Borno State and reflects renewed collaboration between political leaders and the military in the fight against insurgency.
