Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, one of the pilots of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday, died just two weeks after his wedding.
Man-Ugwueje married Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle in an elaborate ceremony in Abuja on September 19, 2026.
Details of the wedding were confirmed through the couple’s invitation and posts shared by vendors who handled the event.
The Holy Matrimony took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Masters Place, in Utako, Abuja, at 11am.
The reception followed at 3pm at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre in Asokoro, Abuja. The invitation identified the groom as the son of retired Group Captain Man-Ugwueje.
According to information on his Facebook profile, Man-Ugwueje’s hometown is Umuahia, Abia State, while he was based in Abuja. Videos and photographs from the wedding, including footage shared by videographer Beejay Creates under the caption “Love in every word,” show the couple on their special day.
The aircraft, NAF 931, which had 25 people on board, five crew members and 20 passengers crashed while on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.
The Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday confirmed that all 25 people on board died and released their names. Man-Ugwueje was listed among the five crew members as a co-pilot.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the crash as a deeply painful moment for the Nigerian Air Force and the nation. He expressed condolences to the families, loved ones and colleagues of the victims and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa earlier said no survivor had been found at the crash site after search efforts by security personnel, emergency responders, Amotekun Corps members and local residents.
